N.E.S.T. Taekwondo
North of England schools of Taekwondo were founded in 1996 by Mr Anthony Mawbey then a 4 TH Degree Black Belt. Although N.E.S.T. Taekwondo was originally a group of schools ran and owned by Mr Mawbey it soon developed into an association of schools run by independent Instructors, who follow the N.E.S.T. syllabus.
All the N.E.S.T. senior Instructors, school owners, and assistant Instructors have come “through the ranks” this has proved by far the best way of developing a strong long lasting and loyal relationship between senior instructors and class instructors.
N.E.S.T. Taekwondo exists {as a group of Martial Arts schools } because of the commitment and belief from the founder and senior instructors, through the class instructors right down to the latest student who has enrolled.
There are now N.E.S.T. Taekwondo groups in Rotherham,Sheffield,Scunthorpe and Wakefield .

Our Classes
Taekwondo is a Korean form of self defence that consists
of striking, kicking and close quarter self protection techniques.
Taekwondo was developed in Korea during the 1940s as a combination of
Korean Taek Kyon and Japanese Karate. A method of unarmed combat, it is
concerned with both the physical and the mental, emphasizing self-discipline
and respect.
Regular training in Taekwondo can develop strength stamina flexibility
and agility can heighten focus and concentration while learning practical
self defence skills, as well as developing and increasing confidence to
handle such situations as bullying, and peer pressures.
In our classes we develop our techniques through repetition,
the techniques range from the basic blocks strikes and kicks to the more
advanced techniques in Taekwondo.
Students practice these techniques in line to develop coordination, focus
strength and power, and with partners to understand more about application
of techniques.
The techniques practiced are performed in different patterns.
A pattern is a series of fundamental movements, both offensive and defensive,
performed against an imaginary opponent. The techniques recorded in the
patterns cover a wide range of close quarter combat skills such as punches,
kicks, throws; takedowns and arm locks . They teach the various stances
and attacking and blocking techniques, and also teach how to move and
shift your weight distribution, develop technique, condition muscle, build
strength, improve concentration and practice breathing control.
Once a student is familiar with basic Taekwondo technique the they are introduced to free sparring
Free sparring is a way for students to develop movement, awareness and application of techniques.
Free sparring comes in two forms, Combat Sport Sparring and Self Defence Sparring.
The sport-based form of Taekwondo is scored using a point system based on striking to a restricted target area, with protective equipment worn to prevent injury. This is performed under semi-contact rules.
The self defence sparring includes vertical and ground grappling, and involves all close quarter combat techniques, e.g. striking, joint locking, sweeps, throws and pressure points.
Taekwondo technique can be enhanced and developed by the use of pads shields and other training equipment.
When students understand better the application of techniques then focus power and speed can be developed through the use of these aids.
Taekwondo is a very complete form of physical fitness, when the basics are understood a typical class can provide a student with both aerobic conditioning {cardiovascular training} and anaerobic conditioning {increasing both muscular strength and tone}, this can also be achieved by callisthenics {circuit training} skipping and running drills.
Flexibility is developed and improved by mobility exercise together with a wide range of both dynamic and static stretching.
All conditioning training is structured to meet the fitness levels of different individuals. |
